Out-Group Homogeneity Effect

Abstract:

The research review summarizes the available information on the out-group homogeneity effect. It focuses on the background of the phenomenon, on the related concepts, on its development, its essence and on the studies available in this area. It is based on the analysis of specialized databased articles in a dateless period. The effect falls into the category of social perception and it is often confused with a similar effect – cross cultural effect. It is also closely related to the topics of member group, categorization, stereotyping and social identity. In this time of increasing migration, globalization and multiculturalism, such topics should be paid attention to in order to understand the mechanisms of their origination.
