Paradigm Shift – Heterodox Perspective On Economic Transformation In Poland

Abstract:

At the turn of the 1980s and 1990s Poland underwent spectacular socio-economic transformation from real socialism to capitalism. This systemic shift is analysed through the lens of institutional and heterodox economics. The study shows that the shock therapy followed the rules of the Washington Consensus. The pendulum has swung from one extreme (inefficient collectivism) to the other: neoliberal turbo-capitalism.
