Pay and Job Satisfaction: A Study of Science and Technology Educators in a Selected College of Education in Nigeria

Abstract:

Pay is very essential considering that it fosters employee contentment, their level of productivity, reduce turnover rate, and most importantly job satisfaction. This study critically examined the role of pay on employee satisfaction among science and technology educators. To achieve this objective, a total of 140 science and technology educators drawn from the academic staff of a selected College of Education in South west Nigeria, were sampled. The data collected were analysed using regression analysis.  The result showed that pay is an important strategy for employee satisfaction among science and technology educators in the selected institution. Based on the findings of the study it was recommended that monetary benefits should be satisfying hence, employers need to research on pay plans and packages of industry competitors in order to offer potential employees a similar package and attract the best candidates.
