Perception and Potential of Crowd Local Delivery Implementation in Medan City

Abstract:

The increase in transactions using e-commerce channels has required freight forwarders and shipping service companies to innovate to meet the demand for timely and quality delivery of goods. Indonesia is currently in fifth place as the country with the fastest delivery duration in Southeast Asia. This is due to uneven road infrastructure in Indonesia. Medan as the largest city in the westernmost region of Indonesia has several potentials that can be maximized to implement Crowd Logistics as the fastest, most environmentally friendly product delivery solution, improve the community's economy and be efficient for company operations. This study uses a mix method approach by distributing questionnaires to potential communities to join the Crowd Logistics ecosystem, and distributing questionnaires to the general public who are consumers of expedition services. The results of the study show that resource factors such as the availability of vehicles as transportation for the delivery of goods are massively available. Medan city road infrastructure also supports the implementation of Crowd Logistics. However, the perception of the Medan city community is divided into two, namely: Most of the respondents are interested in joining as Once Drivers in the Crowd Logistics ecosystem. Then Medan city consumers not sure about the quality and guarantee of delivery of goods by Once Driver because they are considered to have less experience and professionalism than professional couriers.
