Perception of E-Teaching Experience in Latvian Higher Education Institutions

Abstract:

Rapid development of information and communication technologies fosters overall movements of education delivery channels towards online education. In 2013 the European Commission launched an initiative “to set out a framework for enhancing learning and teaching through new technologies and open digital content at all levels of education.” The changing learning and teaching environment encourages higher education institutions to use online learning tools more intensively. In Latvia, the most popular ICT decision in the field of higher education is Moodle platform. The current research in progress aimed to exploring the perception of e-teaching activities in the Latvian higher education institutions. The goal of the current paper is to prepare the theoretical basis for the survey and to validate theoretically the design of the research instrument. The tutors engaged in e-teaching in Latvian higher education institutions will be surveyed, using the authors’ developed questionnaire. The research results allow making conclusions about the tutors’ perceptions of online teaching methods that, in turn, can assist HEI management staff to improve intensity and quality of e-teaching activities within Moodle platform.
