Perceptions on Architecture Management and Architect’s Profession

Abstract:

Information Systems related architecture management requires a considerable amount of human knowledge and experience. However, there are few scientific results that deal with architect’s profession or that could guide to improve the knowledge and skills of architects. This paper provides a preliminary study that contributes to the issue. Our study shows e.g. that the architecture terminology is yet un-established and the requirements for architecting skills are unrealistic. These findings indicate that architecture management is still a somewhat immature discipline. Because one person cannot likely be a jack-of-all-trades, we suggest that successful architecture management could be enabled through improved communication, i.e. better individual communication skills combined with practical and efficient teamwork.
