Abstract:
The article describes the relationship between the central and peripheral regions of the Kharkiv region, which are manifested, as a rule, in the form of labor and educational migration. On the basis of the “growth poles theory”, it has been proved that cities become a place of concentration of economic, social, financial, intellectual, labor resources. Such “growth points” provide wide opportunities for the population to receive higher incomes and, therefore, attract migrants from peripheral areas. The purpose of this article is to analyze the current migration situation in the Kharkiv region in order to identify factors, directions and characteristics of migration. Based on the migration trends identified by the authors in the Kharkiv region, it can be noted that urbanization processes are intensifying in the region due to the influx of rural residents, but settlement within the city occurs in semi-peripheral areas, thereby creating a suburbanization process. An increase in the urban population, its employment in the tertiary sector and high-tech sectors of the economy, a high proportion of youth and students speaks of its post-industrial development.
