Persistent Stored Modules as Support for Temporal Joins

Abstract:

The commercial relational database management systems (RDBMS) currently available on the market, offering temporal extensions based on the SQL: 2011 standard, only to a certain extent cover the needs resulting from the nature of temporal databases. The possibilities of these extensions are mainly limited to the creation of temporal relations and data manipulation operations in relation to individual temporal relations. Temporal joins, without which practically none temporal database exists, are still left behind for database application developers. It is therefore worth unifying the rules for creating temporal operations, which will certainly allow for faster development of the application and facilitate the diagnosis and removal of errors. The paper presents the results of the initial stage of works aimed at developing patterns of service temporal joins using Persistent Stored Modules. The proposed approach allows for treating temporal joins in a similar way as in the case of joins in a conventional database.
