Abstract:

The emergence and development of accounting as science, practice or means of communication in the business world is closely related to the development of the world in general and to the economic and social progress, in particular.Accounting has a centuries old history and, as Goethe once described it, accounting is “one of the most sublime creations of the human spirit and each homemaker should use it in his household”.The objective of this paper is to analyse the development of accounting in Romania, dwelling upon the main historic events that have shaped and influenced the accounting profession.
