Perspectives on Mexico’s Energy Transition: Drivers, Challenges, and the Path to Sustainability

Abstract:

Mexico is currently undergoing a substantial transformation in its energy landscape towards sustainability, driven by a complex interplay of factors. This qualitative research has undertaken an in-depth exploration of the perceptions and insights formal leaders in sustainability concerning Mexico's energy transition. Through meticulous analysis, eight key themes have surfaced, casting light on crucial aspects of this transition: "Current Situation," "Drivers," "Obstacles and Limitations," "Perception," "Initiatives," "Opportunities for Collaboration," "Government and Regulators," and "Future Outlook."

The primary contribution of this study lies in its comprehensive examination of the intricate Mexican energy transition landscape, as perceived by formal leaders in Mexican companies. By delving into their perspectives and experiences, we have unveiled critical themes that offer a holistic understanding of this ongoing transformation.

Our findings have addressed the need for adaptive, forward-thinking policies, emphasized the role of innovation and collaboration in surmounting challenges, and explored the potential impacts of emerging technologies and evolving policies on the path to sustainability in Mexico's energy sector. The study recommends the formulation of adaptive, forward-looking policies that incentivize clean energy practices and align incentives with emission reduction goals. Practical implications underscore the significance of innovation, collaboration, and industry partnerships in overcoming the challenges of this transition.
