Pet Food Market and Pet Owners Purchasing Habits

Abstract:

Pet food quality and availability is an important topic in increasingly complex and expanding market. This study investigates pet food market and development opportunities, based on the survey of 880 pet owners from Croatia. The results reveal that there are numerous opportunities for local producers to participate in pet food market in different niches, especially in the premium brand range. The logistic regression analysis has been performed to define the likelihood of buying local pet food products. Younger population and those more familiar with local brands are more likely to buy them, while those who prefer online shopping buy more foreign brands. The findings are relevant to pet food producers and potential investors, since the results have found that most of the pet owners are willing to buy and spend more on locally produced pet food and equipment.
