Abstract:
The significance of international trade in services is continuously growing. Although Poland's share in global trade in services amounted to only 1.01% in exports and 0.72% in imports in 2016, tertiarisation of the Polish economy is visible. In 2005-2016, the contribution of the services sector (including construction) to value added and employment on average accounted for almost 72% and 64%, respectively. For many years, Poland has a growing surplus in international trade in services. However, in terms of the share in GDP, in 2016 Poland's exports in services were still four times smaller than exports in goods (10,6% versus almost 43%) which may indicate a large untapped potential in this field. Therefore, examining Poland's export specialization pattern in services trade and specifying sectors with potential for increased exports are important issues.
