Abstract:

Family businesses play a significant role in the stable development of the economy. They are the natural form of family and local entrepreneurship, which under favorable circumstances develops and lasts for many generations. Most of them are micro and small companies. Many large global corporations have grown up from family businesses. The purpose of the article was to present the specifics of family businesses in Poland and challenges they are facing. The article presents selected family businesses which have emerged not only on the local but also on the global market. The article also presents results of the research, which aim was to define problems and challenges family businesses face, and their visibility on the global market. For this purpose, between November 2018 and March 2019, the authors conducted the survey among representatives of local manufacturing family businesses from various industries. For the research, non-random method of sampling – convenient sampling was chosen.
