Population Migration, Cause Of The Decline Of The Romanian Village

Abstract:

Romania's past years have not only experienced a difficult economic transition, but also experienced a decline in demographics, population aging, declining birth rates and labor migration are some of the problems facing Romania, and those more affected are rural areas.  Migration is the major cause of the accelerated aging population and the depopulation of rural areas, and it is also generating a qualified human capital deficit. Under the impact of massive labor migration abroad, the decrease in the number of births and marriages, and the aging of the population, the situation of the most affected Romanian villages will become dramatic. Depopulation is not a predictive phenomenon for the future, but is, from now on, a sad reality that is common in many rural settlements. According to statistical data submitted by Eurostat, Romania will have one of the oldest populations in the EU in 2060. Also, the dependency ratio of the elderly, ie the ratio of the 65-year-old population to the active population, aged 15-64, will grow alarmingly, exceeding 60% by 2060.
