Abstract:

Clustering has a lot of advantages and positives especially for companies and cities joined in those cluster. Mainly we could speak about elimination of their entrepreneurial limits joined with their size. Clusters, except of these benefits, contribute to the enlarged regional or village specialisation; stimulate government to investment in sector and appropriate region at the same time. From this, of course, goes so positive effect as the development of regions and municipalities, too. Clusters are in many documents and statements therefore considered as an important microeconomic factor. Precondition of cluster creation is also the fact that small and medium sized enterprises are not, in comparison with large companies, able to use economies of scale; they do not have sufficient capacity for the research, education of their employees, information achievement, etc. Due to this the creation of clusters is suitable for them as their source of own development within the region. In our research, we have counted Location Quotient for individual regions of Slovak Republic within selected area of activity - agriculture. Specific contribution of this paper is in evaluation of real situation in previously mostly agricultural country and setting up perspectives of further development in this area of activity.
