Potential of the Moravian-Silesian Region for Cultural Tourism in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

The paper deals with issue of culture and its use in tourism on example of one of the regions of the Czech Republic - the Moravian-Silesian Region. The contribution aims to highlight the importance of cultural tourism in this area and point out to other possibilities for its development. Through secondary data analysis, using the results of research of CzechTourism Authority, but also through the results of own questionnaire survey, an overview about cultural potential of the Moravian-Silesian Region was obtained and the demand for culture and “seeing the places”, as motives to travel, was evaluated. Although the investigated region has not so many cultural attractions as other regions of the Czech Republic, the contribution findings show that there are plenty of opportunities to use the existing cultural potential. This potential is often very interesting and in some cases we can speak about unique cultural and historical, eventually industrial monuments. All of this can be used for improving and development of tourism in the region. The researches results indicate that also visitors are interested in the culture of the region and confirm that cultural tourists are a specific type of visitors.
