Predicting University Students’ Entrepreneurial Intention through the Theory of Planned Behavior

Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to predict university students’ entrepreneurial intention by using the theory of planned behavior. In this theory, an individual’s intention can be measured with three indicators, which are one’s attitude towards a behavior, subjective norms, and behavior controlled perception. This research also predicts one’s entrepreneurial intention by comparing two faculties with students from different education backgrounds. The research sample was senior level students from Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and senior level students from Faculty of Humanities in Universitas Indonesia. Overall, the research results revealed that with different education backgrounds, students from both faculties had different entrepreneurial intentions. The attitude factor towards behavior controlled perceptions and behavior also had a positive and significant influence towards the entrepreneurial intention of FEB and Faculty of Humanities students. Subjective norms did not have an influence towards FEB and Faculty of Humanities students’ entrepreneurial intentions. These findings have importance for those involved in academic institution.
