Abstract:

The data mining, which is also known as knowledge discovery in databases, is successfully used to extract valid, previously unknown, understandable, useful, and actionable information from large structured and unstructured databases. The data mining has got importance for supporting the crucial business decisions, disease diagnostics, or predictions what may happen in future.

In this paper, we present the application of Apriori algorithm of data mining to mine associate rules among the marks scored by students in prerequisite and successor mathematics courses in an engineering degree program. The mined rules revealed that association rule mining could be used effectively for predicting the grades and also adapting the teaching methodologies to teach mathematics course.
