Pro-Intrapreneurship Organisational Architecture And Job Performance: Evidence From An Emerging Asian Economy

Abstract:

The primary aim of this study is to investigate the organisational architecture that can be designed to promote intrapreneurial behaviour among workforce which could subsequently lead to better performance. Specifically, this study examines the effects of five dimensions of organisational architecture (i.e., “management support”, “work discretion”, “reward and reinforcement”, “organisational boundaries” and “time availability”) on intrapreneurial behaviour. Following that the effect of intrapreneurial behaviour on job performance is also tested. Of 500 questionnaires distributed, 263 were found usable. Structural equation modeling procedure was employed to test the hypothesised relationships.   The results indicate that except for “organisational boundaries”, other organisational architecture namely “management support”, “work discretion”, “reward and reinforcement”, and “time availability” were found to have positive significant effects on intrapreneurship. In addition, intrapreneurial behaviour is found to be positively related to job performance. Overall, this study offers valuable insights into the factors within an organisation that could instigate intrapreneurial spirit among employees in an organisation.
