Abstract:

Many studies explain that scope management plays a critical and significant role in the project's success. As scope creep is a detrimental problem that projects suffer from in construction and oil and gas fields. This research aims to investigate what causes scope creep and how to overcome it. Project scope creep may occur for several reasons related to tasks, specifications, customers, technicality, risks, environment, complexity, communication, and uncertainty. Survey will be conducted from the project managers in construction and oil and gas projects to investigate possible causes and in light of these causes relevant solutions will be suggested. While the researchers recognize those causes, this study takes it one-step further to examine project management practices in Abu Dhabi-based companies, one way through which the researchers hope to generalize their findings to project management practitioners in the whole United Arab Emirates and around the World.
