Proposed Performance Measurement Areas for an Automobile Green Supply Chain

Abstract:

The focus on environmental management and operations has shifted from local optimization of environmental factors to cross boundary consideration of the entire supply chain involving the acquisition of raw materials, manufacturing and/or assembly, distribution, consumption and reversed logistics of the end-of-life-vehicles. Thus, supply chain performance measurement which is an integral part of supply chain management has shifted from the traditional supply chain to the green supply chain which is the contemporary issue in supply chain management. This study provides a set of performance measurement areas for the assessment of a green supply chain in the automotive industry. Since greening of the supply chain is a continuing process aimed at achieving perfection over a period of time, these key performance measures will serve as pointers in performance measurement. This in-turn will compliment in overcoming the challenges faced in the measurement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the green supply chain in the automotive industry. Finally, conclusions and directions for further studies are proposed to enhance research in the field of supply chain performance measurement.
