Abstract:
This paper presents a research model that discusses factors that enhance physician usage of Health Information System (HIS) in developing countries. This paper adopts the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), which has been widely used in Information Systems (IS) research and the theory is extended with Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) to arrive at the proposed model. The impact of the proposed model could be seen on the behavioural control towards the use of the HIS application. Also, the model discusses the social interaction between patients and physicians. The organisational implication helps avoid cases relating to medical errors and discuss how training the physician in the use of HIS will help in effective healthcare delivery.
