Psychological Aspects of Tolerant or Intolerant Attitude of Local Residents to Migrants

Abstract:

In the article, based on the analysis of theoretical sources, the psychological, economic, physiological adaptation of a person in society, four types of acculturation, according to which it is possible to determine how the migrant is adapted, are identified and described. Also, processes that to some extent prevent migrants from adapting to a new country are examined, they are the processes of cultural shock and nostalgia; the definitions of tolerance and the degree of tolerant attitude, the types of behavior that characterize aboriginal people as tolerant people in relation to newcomers are identified; the causes of conflict situations between the local population and migrants, strategies and ways of building a tolerant personality that help to make a person more tolerant of another religion, race, gender, nationality and culture are marked out.
