Psychology in the Service of Security: The Role of the Psychologist in Polish Penitentiary Units

Abstract:

The profession of psychologist is one of the professions of public trust[1] and as such occupies a special place among the professions. In Poland, the professional activity of a psychologist is regulated by the Act of 8 June 2001 on the profession of psychologist and the professional body of psychologists.[2] Psychologist provides psychological services that include psychological diagnosis, opinion, adjudication, conducting psychotherapy and providing psychological support. A psychologist may also carry out research or teaching activities in the field of psychology.
