Abstract:
Romania has had different actions at national level over the last 20 years to reduce poverty. The Commission for the Prevention and Fight against Poverty (1998) produced the Strategy for Preventing and Combating Poverty, which was the first strategic document on social policy principles. Between 2001 and 2006, the Anti-Poverty and Social Inclusion Commission (CASPIS) developed various research to combat poverty, set out indicators to monitor this process and developed different poverty maps. This commission drafted the National Anti-Poverty Plan and adapted national goals to local needs. In 2005, the Government drew up the Joint Social Inclusion Memorandum with the European Commission. This was the first joint project on social inclusion at European level. In 2006, the Government approved the establishment of a national mechanism for promoting social inclusion.
