Public-Private Partnership For Indigenous Tourism Development in The Veps Area Of Leningrad Oblast

Abstract:

The authors demonstrate the current limitations and potential for development of an indigenous tourist destination in the area of the compact Veps settlement of Alyokhovshchina in Lodeynopolsky raion of Leningrad oblast. The article discusses the collaborative experience of the indigenous community, business and local authorities under the state support of the indigenous peoples of the North. It suggests using the public-private partnership mechanism to develop tourism infrastructure in the area and help the Veps retain their ethnic identity.Â
