Quantitative Research regarding Internet Usage and its Influence on Young People Behavior. A Case Study of Romanian Students

Abstract:

Since the appearance of the Internet on the market, this was seen as a new communication mean which facilitates contact between long distance people and gives them an opportunity to exchange information, ideas and thoughts in real time. Although, initially, the virtual environment facilitate communication between people, and because of technological developments in the field, it has grown to offer users the ability to relax (through games) to talk with people who share same passions, interests (through social networks) and to purchase various goods and services. Today young people are the main users of the online environment. They turn to this communication mean to socialize, to relax, to learn new information everyday or to purchase various products. This paper aims to identify how the Internet is used now by young people. For this, a quantitative research was conducted on a sample of 88 users. The study was carried out between 15.10.2014 - 11.05.2014, in Bucharest. Information was collected using a questionnaire consisting of 15 questions. The collected data were processed using IBM SPSS Statistics 20.
