Abstract:
Sustainable agriculture remains a viable source of livelihood for millions of people. Human population growth and strong increase in global consumption has caused an ever-rising demand for agricultural produce worldwide. The importance of sustainability of agricultural production system is becoming a major concern of agricultural researchers and policy makers in both developed and developing countries. This study examines how entrepreneurial opportunities and sustainability in the agricultural sector can be strengthened. This paper also adopted a rapid evidenced-based review to gain insight that allows for a structured and rigorous search, as well as a quality assessment of the issues raised. Review of seven renowned online scientific repositories such as, Directory of Open Access journals (DOAJ), Science Direct, EBSCOHost, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Scopus and Wiley Digital Library were highly considered. Using the database search, 50 published relevant articles from online sources were reviewed based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. It can be concluded that Nigerians need urgent help and restructuring of agricultural economy from world powers and world banks to address the current economic challenge on poverty and food insecurity in the country. The government should encourage the study of agriculture in the educational curriculum as a compulsory subject to everybody at all levels of study while the provision of insecticides should be made available to the farmers.
