Abstract:
The rapid growth of global competitive conditions has generated the need for a better manufacturing footprint and of relocation: the relocation of a company from the offshore location to a new one (re-shore) or even back to home location (back-shore); not necessarily relocation of the whole plant (Fratocchi et al.2014, Holz, 2009, p.156). While supply chain management, off-shoring, outsourcing have become established research areas, few studies have researched why companies tend to re-shore their manufacturing plants to other geographical locations and how this phenomenon can create value to their supply chain and sustainability.
