Reasons for Students’ Migration: A Polish and Portuguese Case Study

Abstract:

The main aim of this article is to study the relationship between the causes of migrations and some selected criteria such as gender, age and employment, using the exploratory method of correspondence analysis on a sample of Polish and Portuguese students representing the information society (IS). The authors have also attempted to answer the question of whether there exist interdependencies between, among others, convictions and the readiness to migrate. A questionnaire survey was conducted on a sample of N = 121 Polish and of N = 55 Portuguese students of economics.

The principal results of the study: in EU developing countries such as Poland or Portugal the readiness to migrate in young, educated people is high. The reasons for migration depend mainly on the professional standing and gender of the migrant.
