Record Management Practices in Malaysian Public Sector: Towards the Effectiveness in Managing Government Records

Abstract:

Records management represent the core of public sector activities because records are the institutional memory of public sector agency. Records management also is a tool for establishing internal and external accountability and a means for creating standardized work-routines. In Malaysia, the Electronic Government (EG) concept has been implemented and organizations create more combined, complex and automated e-services and increasingly develop inter-departmental co-operation, the need for effective records management is mandatory for public sector. There are several elements highlighted in this paper in supporting the effectiveness of record management for example the existence of policies, top level management support, training programmes along with the existence of technology.
