Records Management using Information and Communication Technologies

Abstract:

Document management discipline is becoming important in recent years. Corporate record keeping, once considered an obscured back-room job for low level clerks, has become a strategic and costly decision for many companies. The high level of noncompliance today, often inadvertent, due to the lack of control, could cause organisations to fall foul of the law which can result in heavy fines and damaging reputation. On the other hand, organisations that employ a comprehensive information and records management system successfully transform their information and tacit knowledge into a high value business commodity. This paper unveil the fundamentals of records management theories and how Information technologies can improve productivity and organizational performance through electronic records managements system, providing effective, accurate, speedy and economic result. This paper also presented the critical standard for electronic records management system to ensure the authenticity, originality, reliability and validity of electronic records as evidence.
