Regulations of Financial Statements and Economic Growth: Empirical Analysis in the Case of Tunisia

Abstract:

In the Tunisian financial system, banking sector constitutes the fundamental element, as banks and other institutions receiving the deposits are generally the first and sometimes the only institutions that mobilise household's savings. In this work, our objective is to test the impact of the financial system inspired essentially from the banking sector on the economic growth in Tunisia. In this regard, we have undertaken an analysis of co-integration as presented by Granger (1983) and Engle and Granger (1987), which offers a certain specificity in the domain of the analysis of the temporal series. Using an approach that is at the same time theoretical and empirical, we were able to demonstrate the positive impact, in the long run, of the financial development on economic growth during the period 1983-2016.
