Relationship between Conscientiousness and Employee Job Performance

Abstract:

The research study assesses empirically the relationship between conscientiousness and employee job performance using Nigeria Banking Industry as the case study. The research tries to ascertain if conscientiousness affects overall performance of employee bearing in mind the consistent behavioural difference between individuals. To achieve this objective, the following questions were asked: to what extent does management bandwidth –strength and expertise of managers-aid the mind of employees to achieve the overall organizational goals? Does a conscientious worker perform better than an unconscientiously worker?

Thus the literature on the nature of the construct of conscientiousness is reviewed given consideration to the likely behaviour associated with high conscientiousness. Using a survey design, the results indicated a significant relationship between conscientious and job performance. It also revealed that organization’s vision should be shared with employees to enhance committed.
