Abstract:
The city as an independent territorial and social unit is a system in which economic, political, environmental and social processes proceed that have their own specific characteristics. Sustainable development of the city entails the implementation of measures that contribute to solving problems of improving the quality of life of the population, the optimal use of resource potential, the development of industrial infrastructure with minimization of environmental damage. The purpose of the study is to conduct a qualitative and quantitative assessment of the sustainable development of Kaliningrad. This requires: to consider the concept of the initiative “Sustainable urban development” and its main provisions; to analyze the process of implementing the concept of sustainable development of Kaliningrad at present; based on the proposed methodology, assess the level of sustainable development of Kaliningrad; to conduct a comparative analysis of the level of sustainable development of Kaliningrad with the average level for the Russian Federation; assess the prospects for the implementation of the concept of sustainable development in this region.
