Abstract:

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) based tagging has been successfully applied in agricultural, retail marketing and manufacturing. This paper presents the reasons why the use of RFID technology is suitable within a system that will enable the monitoring of the performances of oil palm trees in an oil palm breeding process. A brief review of RFID and recent developments in RFID based system is included. A summary of current research using RFID tagging in the monitoring and control of oil palm breeding process is provided. Further research required in this area is also discussed.
