Abstract:
The security situation in Europe calls more desperately for improvement of security forces. Security is becoming a current topic of government policies of European countries and the Czech Republic is not an exception. In case of insuring security on the regional or municipal level, the local government is an essential power, or the municipal police are established. This paper deals with the role of the municipal police in the Czech Republic with respect to characteristic features of the municipal police in selected European countries. Subsequently, based on studied materials and questionnaire survey, which focuses on citizens’ attitudes to selected fields of the municipal police activities in the particular municipality, conclusions leading to drawing a SWOT analysis, from which outputs recommendations leading to improving of the work of the municipal police, are drawn. Thus the aim of this paper is based on research of local specifications and following to define features and functions of the municipal police and drawing possible improvements in its functioning.
