Abstract:
This paper highlights the importance of knowledge, as the basic asset in today's knowledge economies and also as the main support for any sustainable performances of the SMEs. A lot of research has placed accent on what happens in large multinationals, so this study comes to balance the findings and show if there is a link between the basic knowledge processes in a small company and sustainable performance. The study also includes a comprehensive literature review on knowledge management and performace measurement related to knowledge management. We found that the processes of knowledge acquisition, knowledge sharing and knowledge implementation or use are directly correlated to the a companie's performance. For sustainable development, knowledge managers must pay attention to the basic processes related to knowledge in their organizations. The study is very usefull for practitioners, because it shows a direct link among operational processes in the organization an performance and also it bring value to researchers because of the literature review and analysis.
