Seed and Oil Yield of Two Spring Camelina Varieties with Different Fertilization Scheme

Abstract:

Camelina sativa has recently got the attention of agronomical scientifical community due its high versatility as a crop and its interesting oil composition which makes camelina oil suitable four various industries – from aviation fuel to cosmetics. For this study two different varieties of Camelina sativa were taken into account – Calena, an Austrian one and Madalina, developed in Romania. Three different rates of fertilizers were applied (N45P45K, N66P57K45+ 24SO3 + 7CaO + 2Mg + 0.1 B +0.15 Zn; N101P78K45+ 48SO3 + 14CaO + 4Mg + 0.2 B +0.3 Zn) resulting in a two-factorial split plot experience. The main factor that influences, the seed yield is the climatic one, having an influence of 49.34%, greatly higher than the influence of different combinations of fertilizers which is 29.59%. Although camelina is considered a low input crop, it performs well when higher rates of fertilizers are applied influencing the oil yield in a proportion of 38.59%, higher than the influence of the climate on the oil yield (29.07%). This research was carried out in order to find a suitable fertilization scheme for camelina in the western part of Romania characterized by a continental climate thus, these results can show interest for the whole Central and Eastern Europe.
