Shaping Future E-Learning Systems through Social Media within the Socio-Technical Context

Abstract:

Nowadays, technology represents the engine of operating the current society's mechanisms. Consequently, this led governments, educational institutions and any other private or public organization to take action in order to respond to new challenges and to take advantage of the opportunities that ICT offers. Moreover, as part of the ongoing development of modern technologies and, consequently, of networking communication tools, the expansion of social networking services (SNS) has an impressive impact on society at global level.

However, given the speed of change due to technological progress as a whole, developing educational systems tailored to a future world became a challenge. Therefore, the first direction of this research consists in identifying the critical success factors framework for e-learning systems, by reviewing the existing literature and linking the exposed views on the subject. The secondary purpose of our work is to emphasize how or why Social Media could be considered the key element that meet the success requirements for the future e-learning/m-learning systems, from a socio-technical perspective.
