Sharing Tacit Knowledge through Narratives in Project Risk Management

Abstract:

This study is focused on the topic of sharing tacit knowledge among project managers in project risk management. We assume that this sharing is a) possible; b) necessary to increase their competencies in project risk management. Through theoretical analysis of expert sources and comparison of studies on relevant topics, we consider the possibilities of sharing and its importance. The presented text also includes a case study aimed at recognizing the process of sharing tacit knowledge through narratives among students preparing for the roles of project managers. For the purpose of the study, the author used fictional stories presenting team problems. Without being encouraged to their storytelling, the students often presented their solutions of the problems through narratives. It turns out that they use the narratives to express their attitudes and the attitudes of others, to pass on their opinions, knowledge and experience gained from solving practical situations, and that they choose the most natural form – story.
