Silver Economy of a Megapolis: St. Petersburg Case Study

Abstract:

The article is devoted to the consideration of the concept of the silver economy as a response to the global trend of population aging. The definition of the silver economy is clarified and the experience of countries that successfully implement this model is studied. The prospects and potential effects of its implementation for a metropolis are analyzed on the example of St. Petersburg. The choice of St. Petersburg as a model region is determined by the age structure of its population, namely, by the fact that it has more than a quarter of the population of older age groups (and, according to demographic forecasts, their share will only increase). The role of the older population and the importance of implementing the principles of the silver economy for overcoming the consequences of the COYID-19 pandemic are noted.
