Simulation of the Production Process as a Lean Manufacturing Tool

Abstract:

This article focusses on the basics of the methodology for lean manufacturing and then, through a practical example, explores how the use of simulation can extend the tools of lean manufacturing by enabling informed decision making, efficient resource allocation, an easy and straightforward description of the various current manufacturing processes, and subsequent testing of options without the aid of real-world implementation. Thanks to the case study, the article clearly shows a successful example within a production line in a specific company. The article concludes and summarizes the benefits and limitations of simulation as a lean manufacturing tool, highlighting its potential to revolutionize decision making and enhance operational excellence.
