Single Developer Scrum Model: An Exploratory Study

Abstract:

This research attempts to investigate the applicability of scrum in small software companies with a single developer. A grounded theory approach was followed to develop the model. The model was empirically tested on a real case in the Lebanese market. The data was collected from the daily meetings, as well as a semi-structured interview conducted at the end of the data collection period to assess the model. The Single Developer Scrum Model proved to improve efficiency and reduce deadline fluctuations. However, the high intervention of the client in the project and the continuous change of scope lead to additional project costs and delays especially in large projects. Therefore, amendments to the model structure were proposed to be studied in future research.
