Slow Movement as an Extension of Sustainable Development for Tourism Resources. A Romanian Approach

Abstract:

Tourism is one of the most encouraging drivers of growth for the global economy and key to driving the defining trends of the transition to a green economy. Sustainable development, which includes economic, environmental, and socio-cultural sustainability, is a pillar of the philosophy of Slow Tourism. This paper proposes to identify the degree to which Romanian tourists are familiar with the concepts of sustainable tourism and slow travel and their openness to such vacancies. Research is an exploratory pilot study, based on a survey carried out in December 2012, with 224 respondents, entirely Romanian tourists. The concept of slow travel and slow movement are still little known to Romanian tourists and tourist offers based on this alternative form of tourism are few and insufficiently promoted.
