Abstract:
Smart cities consist out of many different concepts creating a more livable and interactive environment for their citizens. All those different concepts out of diverse areas and disciplines require a certain degree of standardization to enable seamless integration between all parts that comprise a smart city. An “IoT Operating System” based on blockchain technology could be the foundation for this standardization in a digitalized IoT environment meeting all requirements. Blockchain technology evolves fast is going through a evolutionary development enabling completely new use cases in this context. To demonstrate the value of a standardized IoT Operating System future smart city concepts outlined in the fields of secure citizen identification, administration services, smart grids, mobility and general economy. In summary there is clear evidence that IoT and blockchain technology will play a major role when it comes to smart city concepts in the future and combined can serve as IoT Operating System.
