Smart City and Sustainable City Development – Selected Aspects

Abstract:

Thinking about the smart city concept assumes an interdisciplinary approach to solving ecological, environmental and social problems and challenges. Thanks to their "intelligence", smart cities develop in a harmonious, planned and sustainable manner, therefore smart cities implement the concept of sustainable development. The smart city concept is a modern idea of ​​city development as a response to the increasing urbanization processes. Thanks to information and communication technologies, smart cities use available resources more efficiently in order to improve the quality of life in the city and ensure its sustainable development. The aim of the article is to present the concept of smart city and its importance in the context of sustainable city management. The literature on the subject and internet sources, case study and the method of observation were used as the research method. It should be emphasized that most smart city projects are treated as innovative and pro-ecological. The smart city concept encourages citizens to become more active and responsible members of the community through, inter alia, lead a more balanced and healthier lifestyle. Modern technologies can promote a sustainable lifestyle and raise the environmental awareness of the inhabitants, although there are also some problems to be aware of.
