Abstract:

As an approach to local development, smart villages reflect the contemporary mechanism and path of development actions, as well as the challenges of the community. The concept comes not only from the examination of actions that take place in rural areas but also from "smart" ideas, giving rise to innovation, actions that are the subject of a large-scale propagation of the concept of intelligent development.

In Romania, the presence of services with internet access is lower in rural areas than in cities. Information transmission networks are constantly expanding. However, the advancement of technology is not enough to develop smart domains. The concept of smart villages concerns rural areas through their communities and largely includes their regional and local characteristics.

 A notable feature of smart villages would be traditional and new networks and services that are strengthened through digital technologies, telecommunications, innovation and better knowledge, with a focus on the benefit of residents and businesses.

The objectives of this paper are:

      - description of areas of interest - with an impact on the development of smart villages,  - establishing the perspectives of rural development.

The research hypothesis of this article - raising the awareness of the inhabitants of rural areas will support the development of the concept of smart village.
