SMS – Texting Effect on Written English

Abstract:

Language is used to interconnect with each other. With the invent of technology, people uses many different forms of devices to communicate with each other (Oksman & Turtiainen, 2004). This study was conducted to sightsee the effect of texting on written English for those who have English as their secondary language. This study uses descriptive technique as a tool to ascertain the impacts of SMS writing. This study found out that the students who are frequent users of cell phone, must try to avoid the use of abbreviated words in SMS-texting.  It can be contingent from the conclusion that students must be also educated about the disadvantages of the excess use of SMS-texting and compromising the language rubrics.
