Social Conditioning of Water Pipe System Modernization – Case Study

Abstract:

Water is an essential element to all human's life. Water supply systems has been providing people with a sense of security for ages (oldest evidence of using water systems were found in Syria - 3rd century B.C.). These water systems created possibilities for industrial development, created sense of increased living standard to people, at the same time dynamics of development and urbanization resulted in increased water demand. Water pipe system is one of the most important element of chain that is providing water to population and its cost equals ca. 80% of the overall water supply system costs. Therefore water pipe system should characterize with high reliability and the maintenance costs should be minimized. Water pipe system modernization in Śmigiel municipality aims in improving currently used configuration as well as adapting it to new tasks. Decision on examining the needs related to water pipe system modernization was made due to external social signs and information coming internally from workers that currently existing system does not fulfil its givens tasks in a proper way and is excessively capital-intensive.
